Duo Security, Inc. expanding in Ann Arbor, adding jobs

Expansion underscores Michigan’s leadership position in cybersecurity

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan continues to demonstrate its leadership in tech jobs growth as Duo Security a cloud-based trusted access provider protecting the world’s largest and fastest-growing companies, today announced its plans to invest in expansion in Ann Arbor with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund. The project is expected to generate nearly $2.5 million in total investment and support the creation of up to 300 direct Michigan jobs over the next three years.

“Duo’s expansion in Michigan rather than Silicon Valley means excellent, well-paying jobs for Michigan residents and underscores the strength of the talent in the state’s technology sector,” said MEDC Chief Executive Officer Steve Arwood.

“We welcome Duo’s commitment to Michigan, and in becoming a key contributor to the state’s expanding cyber security industry,” he said. “A vital part of Michigan’s economic future is a highly integrative and collaborative cyber security platform that provides the necessary stability for businesses to thrive in the world of e-commerce.”

Duo Security, with locations in Michigan, California, London, and Austin, plans to expand its existing operations in Ann Arbor, growing its team of sales, engineering, security and product development professionals.

As a result of this expansion, the Michigan Strategic Fund approved today a $2.5 million Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. The MSF board approves grants and loans administered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which promotes economic development opportunities including retaining and attracting business to the state.

Duo Security established its Ann Arbor technology facility in 2009. Citing the flourishing technology environment, attractive business climate, and highly qualified talent pool, the company chose to invest in its Ann Arbor headquarter operations over competing sites in technology heavy-hitters like Silicon Valley.

“Michigan, and Ann Arbor in particular, is where we want Duo to be,” said Dug Song, CEO of Duo Security. “Ann Arbor has grown to be a robust tech community because we’ve got the smarts and innovation right here in our backyard. By expanding in Michigan, Duo hopes to support that growth of the tech community in Ann Arbor and to help attract talent back from the coasts.”

Ann Arbor SPARK provided direct support to Duo in working with the state on its application for incentives. Going forward, SPARK will assist with talent recruitment and attraction.

“Ann Arbor’s prominence as a thriving area of innovation can be credited to companies like Duo Security, and business leaders like Dug Song, who are committed to growing in this region,” said Paul Krutko, president and CEO of Ann Arbor SPARK. “There’s a long history of companies that are solving complex problems – like Duo is doing – in Ann Arbor, and it’s a legacy that speaks to the support these companies can find here. It’s exciting to work with Duo as it expands, and actively advances Ann Arbor’s reputation as a tech hub.”
