Howell, Michigan – On October 4, Livingston County manufacturers and high schools will join forces during Manufacturing Day — a nationwide effort to expand knowledge of manufacturing career opportunities. For the first time, 12 Livingston County manufacturing companies will open their doors to more than 300 students from Brighton, Fowlerville, Hartland, Howell, Pinckney, Whitmore Lake, FlexTech, Innovation Academy, and Kensington Woods high schools.

Spearheading the effort is Ann Arbor SPARK and the Economic Development Council of Livingston County along with several Livingston-area education and manufacturing organizations.

“Michigan has a rich history in manufacturing and there are a wealth of manufacturing companies hiring here – a trend we know will continue,” said Phil Santer, senior vice president of Ann Arbor SPARK. “Manufacturing Day is the perfect opportunity for high school students to explore what a skilled trades career offers.”

Planned activities include guided tours of facilities and Mott Community College to learn more about the post-secondary opportunities for students who may pursue careers in the manufacturing industry. Student groups will tour three participating employers where they will have an opportunity to learn more about the company.

The regional Livingston Manufacturing Day celebration has been made possible with overwhelming support from participating organizations, including American Compounding, Armore Protective Packaging, Bekum America, Chassix, C&B Machinery, Flexible Metal, Kem Krest, Mott Community College-Livingston, Novares, PepsiCo, TG Fluid Systems, Thai Summit America Corp, Greater Ann Arbor Region, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce, Howell Chamber of Commerce, Hartland Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Works! Southeast, Livingston Educational Services Agency, MI Bright Future, Genesis House, Brighton Area School District, Howell School District, Hartland School District, Fowlerville School District, and Pinckney School District.
