Students across the Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) participated in Hour of Code events during Computer Science Education Week December 3-7. The global event was an opportunity to introduce students to coding and computer science, and help students with prior experience advance through a variety of coding programs.

Volunteers from community partners helped many classes by sharing their professional experiences in coding and then offering assistance as students practiced coding themselves.

The Hour of Code events are designed to promote the use of logic and help students understand how they can learn through failure. The program is also an effort to increase the number of women participating in computer science by giving young girls first-hand experience and opportunities to meet women in the field.

Business and organizations that volunteered for the Hour of Code in the AAPS were:

  • Volunteers from Hook Studios, Using Your Brain, and Google.
