Challenge
With an unemployment rate of 4.0% in 2018, talent remains one of the largest barriers to growth for companies throughout Michigan. This issue is especially a concern in the Ann Arbor region where the unemployment rate in 2018 was 2.6%, significantly lower than the statewide rate. With these conditions, employers throughout the Ann Arbor region must grow their own talent — which takes significant time and resources — or attract talent from outside the area.
Solution
Ann Arbor SPARK’s annual Tech Homecoming event invites individuals who have moved away from Ann Arbor to connect with hiring employers. Strategically held on Thanksgiving Eve, the goal is to give talent the opportunity to experience first-hand the vibrant tech corridor that’s developed in the region.
Results
Since the first event in 2016, Tech Homecoming has connected nearly 50 companies with hundreds of qualified job seekers during an intimate networking event. One area company, NetWorks Group, shared its story of hiring a candidate after the company’s first year participating. Read More
