Disher receives MEDC grant to support talent expansion in Michigan

Ann Arbor, MI. —  Disher Corp., the nationally recognized product development and business consulting firm, is continuing to expand in Michigan, ahead of potential locations in other states. The company plans to invest more than $1.4 million and create at least 42 jobs through its Ann Arbor and Zeeland offices.  As a result, the project has been awarded a $200,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant for hiring, space and training. Ann Arbor SPARK has also offered support to the project in the form of staff time, resources and connections.

“We are excited to receive this grant. It will enable us to expand our mission to ‘Make a Positive Difference’ in the communities we work, live and serve,” said Jeff Disher, Founder and President.  “We believe our company and the work we do should be meaningful and have a lasting impact. The mission is the foundation of our company culture and everything we do. With the help of this grant we will be able to bring in and train more employee-owners who embody our mission and will serve our growing customers even better.”

“Disher has gained prestige as one of the best places to work, and it is exciting to have those highly desirable jobs in Ann Arbor,” said Paul Krutko, president and CEO of Ann Arbor SPARK. “Through our talent portal and business development services, Ann Arbor SPARK is committed to connecting job seekers in our region to this growing company.”

Disher has been achieving significant growth and recognition in recent years including being ranked as the 21st Best Small Company Workplace in the US by Great Place to Work® and as published in Fortune magazine. This is the second time Disher has been recognized and received this honor. Competing against hundreds of exceptional companies across the country, Disher participated in a rigorous selection process which evaluates five dimensions of a great workplace: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie. The results are posted online at www.disher.com/2015/10/26/disher-ranked-21-of-best-places-to-work-in-the….

The most exciting and humbling result of the survey is what employees had to say about Disher’s workplace:

  • 100% say they are proud of their workplace
  • 100% say people care about each other
  • 100% say management is honest and trusts employees
  • 100% say they feel good about how Disher contributes to its communities

An important cultural characteristic that makes Disher a great place to work is that all of the employees are owners in the company ESOP. As owners they get to decide how to divide and share the “Profit Pie,” with certain slices going toward bonuses, profit sharing, stewardship, training, and investment back into the company. They also get to enjoy a take-what-you-need-vacation policy, 401k match, flex time, personal charity checks, paid mission trips, free Friday lunches and many other unique benefits. And every new employee-owner is issued a semi-automatic nerf gun; and is expected to use it at will.

Disher believes that their company culture and benefits consistently achieve better financial performance through less employee turnover, higher levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty, more innovative and creative thinking, higher productivity and enhanced public perception. And that is why they are hiring. Now.
