If you are considering new opportunities, be sure to check out the hospitality industry!  This broad array of employers includes hotels, restaurants, casinos, and other entertainment destinations.  These businesses are always in need of managers, event planners, culinary staff, servers, night auditors, housekeepers, maintenance professionals and many other occupations.  This industry provides opportunities for everyone, even if you don’t have work experience, and can provide you with a successful career pathway.

The hospitality industry is ideal for people that like helping others, don’t want to be tied to a desk all day, enjoy being part of a team, and like variety.

There has never been a better time to explore what the hospitality industry has to offer in terms of a career.  The Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism on March 21 will feature three different ways to see if this is the right career step for you.

  1. Hospitality Career Matchmaking Fair – Sign up for this event to take place on the afternoon of March 21 at the Detroit Marriott.  Over 50 hotels and other tourism related organizations are expected to participate.  You will be asked about your preferred locations and occupations, and participating employers will be given your resume weeks in advance to coordinate interviews with you – even prior to the fair!  You will have access to career counselors to help you figure out the best opportunities and employers for your particular career goals!
  1. Gold Service Gold Training – You can attend this four hour training session on the morning of March 21 and receive a certificate that will provide you with special access to employers.  This training program provides an excellent framework about the qualities that make a hospitality employee valuable and memorable to guests.  This is relevant and applicable for everyone from management candidates, front desk staff, housekeeping staff, food and beverage servers and more.
  1. Tours – High school and college students are able to have a behind the scenes look at the operations of one of Detroit’s largest and most successful hotel!  This will provide exposure to the range of opportunities and for participants get a sense for the environment and ability to talk with employees to learn what it is really like.
